As COVID-19 pandemic continues, more seafarers, OFWs return home

More seafarers return home

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported the arrival of 152 crew members of Carnival Cruise ships Liberty, Magic and Sunshine Wednesday afternoon via Qatar Airways Flight QR 932.

Upon arrival, the crew members underwent mandatory inspection and quarantine protocols by the Bureau of Quarantine. There were no COVID-19 cases on board and no known exposure among the crew members, the repatriates were instructed to undergo home quarantine for 14 days.

The DFA, in coordination with the Department of Health, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Department of Transportation and the seafarers’ manning agency, United Philippine Lines (UPL) facilitated the crew members’ repatriation, the eleventh batch of UPL-hired seafarers of Carnival Cruises.

The seafarers were the third of repatriates for the day as 247 seafarers from Germany arrived this morning while nine overseas performance artists came from Japan at past midday.

The DFA will bring home distressed OFWs affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic this Holy Week and beyond Easter Sunday, according to the statement. (Melo M. Acuña)
