Government announces arrest of Daulah Islamiyah-Maguid group sub-leader
MANILA – Combined police and military elements arrested a sub-leader of the Daula Islamiyah-Maguid Group in Maguindanao last Wednesday.
In a report from the AFP Western Mindanao Command said Kalid Andalani Kalaing also known as Kumander Kalid was arrested by personnel from the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion, Shariff Aguak Municipal Police station, and 2nd Provincial Mobile Police Force Company at a checkpoint at Lining Patrol Base in Labu-labu, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao at 2:30 P.M., Wednesday.
Col. Pedro Balisi, 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade commander said Kalaing was bound for Isulan, Sultan Kuradat from Cotabato City while on a Toyota pick-up. He was arrested due a warrant of arrest under Criminal Case No. 19-5041 for carnapping with homicide dated June 13,2019 by Presiding Judge Lorenzo Balo of Branch 19 in Isulan.
Kalaing is now detained at the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, Maguindanao Provincial Police Office for presentation to the Court on Monday, August 16.
Joint Task Force Central Major General Juvymax Uy said they will continue to assist their partners from the police and other law enforcement agencies to deter unlawful activities in the area.
Patrol bases have been alerted for possible retaliation of Kalaing’s associates.
Lt. General Corleto Vinluan, Jr. AFP Western Mindanao Command chief, congratulated the military and police elements responsible for Kalaing’s arrest.
In a statement from the Zamboanga City-based AFP Western Mindanao Command, it was learned from January 2021, 26 Daulah Islamiyah personalities were subdued, four were arrested, one surrendered while 21 died in police and military operations. (Melo M. Acuña)
