LCT Cebu Great Ocean update, seven rescued, recovers four fatalities

Combined PCG and PNP Maritime Group rescue seven crew, retrieves four others in boat mishap


MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine National Police-Maritime Group operatives, assisted by concerned citizens successful rescued seven of the 20 originally listed missing crewmen of the ill-fated LCT Cebu Great Ocean along the waters of Surigao del Norte.


According to the latest information from the Philippine Coast Guard, crew members Noli Labucay, Roger Polo (Chief mate), Argie Bacarra, Joejie Villanueva, Felipe Quebuen, John Renzo Guanzon and a still unidentified crew member were rescued at different places in the Caraga Region.


The survivors were brought to the nearest government health facility.


The same report disclosed four casualties were recovered by PCG, PNP-MARIG and concerned citizens. The fatality was identified as Norman Galon. Operatives still have to check on the identities of the three others casualties.


As of 1:00 P.M. today, Coast Guard and PNP operatives were continuing their Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. They are also doing patrol operations along the shorelines of Malimono and San Francisco towns in Surigao del Norte. (Melo M. Acuña)
