Government reports spike in COVID-19 cases
MANILA – The Department of Health reported an increase in COVID-19 positive cases as of 4:00 P.M. today.
The total number of cases has reached 93,354 with an increase of 4.55% from yesterday’s cases. Authorities reported 4,063 cases today. The total active cases stand at 26,153 or 28% of the total cases which saw a 17.14% increase over Thursday’s tally.
The seven-day average growth is at 2.91% based on past seven days and has deteriorated to 24.05 days doubling rate.
According to the DOH, the new cases came from NCR with 2,267, Cebu had 654, Laguna, 200, Rizal 123 and Cavite 117.
The Department of Health also announced 165 new recoveries to reach a total of 65,178 for a 69.82 percent recovery rate with 42 duplicate recoveries have been removed.
Forty persons died for a total of 2,023 or 2.17% case fatality rate.
From the 40 fatalities, 27 or 68% in July, 2 or 5% in June, 2 or 5% in May, 7 or 18% in April, 2 or 5% in March.
Deaths were from the National Capital Region with 13 or 33%, 12 or 30% from Central Visayas, Region IV-A with 2 or 5%, Region VI with 2 or 5%, Region 11 had 2 or 5%, Region IV-B with 1 or 2.5% along with Region IX with one of 2.5%.
As of midday Friday, 1,379,866 individuals have been tested. (Melo M. Acuña)
