Land, sea travel suspended due to "Bising"

Tropical storm “Bising” halts land, sea travel to Visayas and Mindanao


MANILA – The Department of Transportation (DoTr) has considered the imminent threat from Severe Tropical Storm (STS) “Surigae” and opted to suspend all land and sea travel, including fishing vessels, bound for the Visayas and Mindanao through Matnog Port and all other ports in the Bicol Region from 12:00 Noon today.


In a statement, the DoTr said the suspension was made at the behest of the Office of Civil Defense (OVD) Region V and was approved by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Emergency Operations Center (NDRRMC-EOC).


The DoTr has advised trucking and logistics companies and buses not to proceed or postpone their planned trips to avoid long queues at Matnog, Sorsogon, to Daraga, Albay.


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and Land Transport Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to enforce the travel advisory.


In an earlier announce, PAGASA said Severe Tropical Storm “Surigae” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 6:20 A.M. today. (Melo M. Acuña)
