ABS-CBN Regional signs-off Friday, August 28
MANILA – Millions of non-Manila residents will miss regional updates as ABS-CBN signs-off on Friday, August 28 after they deliver their newscasts’ final edition in their 12 branches across the country.
The closure has been triggered by the House of Representatives’ denial of the network’s franchise last July 10 which has affected ABS-CBN’s regional operations. Twenty-one regional stations air the local “TV Patrol” versions for over 30 years with local and national news developments.
These stations include TV Patrol North Luzon for Baguio, Dagupan, Ilocos, Isabela and Pampanga, TV Patrol Bicol for Naga and Legazpi cities, TV Patrol Palawan, TV Patrol Southern Tagalog for CALABARZON, TV Patrol Central Visayas serving Cebu, Dumaguete and Bohol, TV Patrol Negros for Negros Occidental and Oriental, TV patrol Panay which serves Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique and Guimaras, TV Patrol Eastern Visayas for Samar and Leyte Provinces, TV Patrol Northern Mindanao for Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Caraga and Dipolog, TV Patrol South Central Mindanao for SOCSKSARGEN, Cotabato, TV Patrol Southern Mindanao for Davao and TV Patrol Chavacano for Zamboanga Peninsula.
ABS-CBN Regional head Tata Sy said their regional offices serve the Filipino audience in areas unserved by other television outfits.
“Bur more than delivering breaking news, ABS-CBN Regional news teams are the first to bring aid and relief to communities struck by calamities,” she added.
The ABS-CBN Regional will cease producing new episodes of its nine morning shows which highlight news, information and entertainment. The establishment of regional outfits was inspired by “Kapitan” Geny Lopez to hlp build a nation.
Despite the National Telecommunications Commission’s cease and desist order last May 5 that closed ABS-CBN’s broadcast operations, the regional offices continued producing newscasts and shows on YouTube and Facebook pages.
The last edition will air on Friday, August 28,2020. Additional information may be sourced through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram via @ABSCBNPR and www.abscbnpr.com. (Melo M. Acuña)
