AFP prepared to response to typhoon-related incidents

AFP Chief General Gapay activates disaster response teams

MANILA – AFP Major General Edgard Arevalo tonight said the AFP Chief of Staff General Gilbert Gapay directed all military commanders within the path of tropical storm “Quinta” to exercise all precautions to ensure safety of AFP personnel and equipment including aircraft, ships and other important assets.

“General Gapay tasked unit commanders to activate their own disaster response teams and must be prepared to deploy and assist local government units and other relevant agencies in the preventive evacuation or forced evacuation,” General Arevalo added.

General Arevalo said commanders involved in deployment should direct their personnel to adhere to minimum health standards.

“We call on our compatriots to strictly follow minimum health protocol and heed typhoon warnings/advisories,” General Arevalo explained.

“We ask them to leave for the evacuation centers in their areas and to leave for the evacuation centers in their localities and take advantage of AFP assistance before the situations get out of hand,” Arevalo added quoting General Gapay. (Melo M. Acuña)
