Three soldiers hurt in Maguindanao explosion

MANILA – The AFP Western Mindanao Command today reported an anti-personnel mine (APM) exploded this morning in Barangay Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao and wounded three soldiers.

According to the military report, soldiers from the 57th Infantry battalion were in a combat clearing operation when the explosion took place.

“We deployed additional troops to cordon the area and establish more details,” said Major General Juvymax Uy, Joint Task Force Central Commander.

Medics responded and evacuated them to Camp Siongco station hospital for appropriate measures.

According to Lt. General Corleto Vinluan, Jr., AFP Western Mindanao Command chief said those responsible for the explosion just wanted to attract attention and gather support.

“We will heighten our security operations,” said Lt. General Vinluan, Jr. in a statement. The soldiers’ identities were withheld pending information of their next of kin. (Melo M. Acuña)
