NUPL condemns killing of Cebu lawyer
MANILA – The National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL) today condemned the killing of another lawyer in Danao City.
In a statement, Atty. Edre U. Olalia, NUPL president said the killings of human rights defenders, activities and doctors and lawyers “have been too many and too frequent” which he believes as a move “to condition people that it is commonplace.”
Atty. Olalia was referring to the broad daylight killing of Atty. Baby Maria Concepcion Landero-Ole who was driving his car when shot dead by one of two motorcycle-riding men shortly before 3:00 P.M. yesterday.
He said many have grown weary of just coming out with the rightful yet formulaic condemnation but called on the citizens not to get tired of doing so.
“Lawyers who student and chose a profession to help bring justice ae being executive with their court attires on,” the NUPL statement said as he called for decisive action and close ranks and push back.
Atty. Olalia said “the duty to protect lawyers is not incumbent to the judiciary alone bet even more mandatory and obligatory on the executive branch with its police, intelligence, investigative and prosecutor arms and vast powers.” (Melo M. Acuña)
