“Auring” sends nearly 5,000 persons to evacuation centers
MANILA – With light, moderate to heavy rainfall over Caraga and Eastern Visayas regions, PAGASA said tropical storm “Auring” slightly weakened as it began moving northwestward.
In a statement released at 5:00 P.M. today, PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains will be felt across Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte and Eastern Visayas tonight while light to moderate with times heavy rains in Northern Mindanao, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Quezon and the rest of Visayas ang Caraga Region tomorrow.
PAGASA said light to moderate and heavy rains will be felt in the Bicol provinces, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and the southern portion of Quezon due to the combined effects of the weather disturbance and the Shear Line, a line or narrow zone across where an abrupt change in the horizontal wind component parallel to this line.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 1,241 families composed of 4,847 persons have been temporarily housed in 36 evacuation centers as local government officials implemented pre-emptive evacuation in northeastern Mindanao.
PAGASA said the combined effects of the surge of the Northeast Monsoon and Tropical Storm “Auring” will bring strong to gale-force winds where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal # 1 is in effect as well as over the rest of the Visayas, Bicol Region, CALABARZON, and Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, Romblon and the northern portion of Palawan (including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands). Strong breeze to near-gale conditions are expected over the rest of Luzon.
Signal Number 1 remains hoisted over the southeastern portion of Masbate including Cataingan, Cawayan, Dimasalang, Esperanza, Palanas, Pio V. Corpus and Placer).
It remains hosted over Northern Samar, Easter Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Bohol, Siquijor, and the northern portion of Negros Occidental (Bacolod City, Bago, Cadiz City, Calatrava, Enrique B. Magalona, Escalante City, Manapla, Murcia, Sagay City, Salvador Benedicto, San Carlos City, Silay City, Talisay City, Toboso, and Victorias City).
In Mindanao, Signal Number 1 remains over Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao City, Camiguin, Misamis oriental and Bukidnon. (Melo M. Acuña)
