Bicol bishops and devotees celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Peñarancia

MANILA – In compliance with mandated health and safety protocols, the Archdiocese of Caceres deemed it wise to cancel all major religious activities in the celebration of the traditional feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia.

In a statement, the Archdiocese of Caceres cancelled the Union Bicol Clergy and the usual diocesan masses during the feast of Ina.

The Caceres Commission on Communications (CCCOM) with the Bicol Diocesan Social Communications Directors have produced a daily online program dubbed “Sa Lindong kan Manto ni INA,” a Penafrancia Special which began last September 11 and will run until September 19 every 4:00 P.M. at the Archdiocese of Caceres FB page. The 30-minute program features the Bicolano Bishops the Bicolano Bishops reflection the teachings and examples of Our Ina with a purpose of leading the devotees to prayer on the challenging conditions.

The program hopes to encourage devotees worldwide to pray to Our Lord, the Divino Rostro, through the intercessions of Our Lady of Penafrancia during this time of pandemic. Without the traditional activities, it is also an alternative way of celebrating the devotion and lead to common discernment and reflection.

“And to express our oneness as a region as we pray together and hope to overcome the pandemic through our love to Ina and the Divino Rostro,” the statement said.

Hosted by Fr. Wilfred Almoneda and Tess Banares-Delfin, the preliminary program during the novenario also includes lay faithful and priests who share their personal testimonies. Selected choirs will sing Marian songs (MTV style) with pictures or videos of their Penafrancia celebrations in the diocese.

On Saturday, September 19,2020, the day of the supposed fluvial procession, His Eminence Luis Antonio Gokim Cardinal Tagle will deliver his message and reflections before the pontifical mass.

During the pandemic, the social media is a great way for devotees to express their devotion to INA and unity as one community longing for healing and miracle in these trying times of COVID-19. (Melo M. Acuna)
