Defense Department favors Black Hawk choppers
MANILA – The Department of National Defense (DND) said they hope to address the growing requirements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ helicopter fleet by purchasing more Black Hawk transport helicopters.
In a statement attributable to DND Spokesperson Arsenio R. Andolong, he said the Black Hawk are versatile workhorses “that are capable of performing various functions in a variety of situations.”
The said air assets can and will be used to airlift relief goods and first responders to disasters and ferry supplies including perishable vaccines and medicines to distant areas unreachable by land transportation.
The air assets can also evacuate people during emergencies and fly critically-ill or injured patients to the nearest medical facilities.
“For a country constantly beset by calamities and currently battling a pandemic, transport helicopters like the Black Hawks are an absolutely necessary asset in our inventory that will allow the Armed Forces to respond efficiently and effectively to critical situations,” he further said.
