Immaculate Conception cathedral opens its doors to Ozamiz faithful
MANILA – Ozamiz Archbishop Martin Sarmiento Jumoad celebrated the 8:00 A.M. Mass at the Immaculate Conception cathedral today.
In his Facebook account, the 63-year old metropolitan said he received a call from Ozamiz City Mayor Sancho Fernando Oaminal yesterday afternoon, reminding him to observe proper distancing, the wearing of face masks and proper hygiene as well as the installation of foot baths at the entrance of Catholic churches in the city.
“He is really firm in allowing us to open the Catholic church to celebrate the Holy Eucharist provided the priests and the Catholic faithful will observe what is required of us,” Archbishop Jumoad said.
The congregation strictly followed the rules on social distancing as well as other requirements from the Manila-based Inter-Agency Task Force composed of Health, Interior and Local Government as well as other agencies.
This morning, the Immaculate Conception cathedral opened its doors to the faithful as early as 5:00 A.M. Masses have also been celebrated at St. Vincent Parish, Cotta Shrine, Carmelite Monastery, and the Filipino-Chinese community.
