2020 Census postponed to a later date

MANILA – The scheduled 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) has been postponed indefinitely in compliance with the national government’s directives to stop the spread of of COVID-19.

In a statement released at 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, the Philippine Statistics Authority said the scheduled census on May 4,2020 will be delayed until President Rodrigo Duterte lifts the Enhanced Community Quarantine (EQC).

With the COVID-19 outbreak and in support of the whole of government’s efforts to stop the spread of the virus, the recruitment and hiring process for census workers and the appropriate training for field operations in preparation for the conduct of the 2020 CPH has been temporarily suspended.

“This measure is being done to help protect the health and safety of the public, PSA employees, census workers including those from the Department of Education and other partners and stakeholders,” said Undersecretary Clair Dennis S. Mapa who is the country’s National Statistician and Civil Registrar General.

He added the PSA will adjust field operations in the 2020 CPH as necessary and adhering to the guidance of the national and local health authorities. (Melo M. Acuña)
