DOE to respect whatever decision to be made by Petron

Department of Energy concerned on Petron’s taxation issues

MANILA – Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said they still have to receive any notification from Petron Corporation on its reported plan to permanently close its refinery in Limay, Bataan.

In a statement, the Department of Energy said news reports disclosed Petron is still in the a series of meetings with the government on tax issues.

“We at the BOE are looking into taxation concerns raised in coordination with the Department of Finance. At the same time, we are also evaluating how a closure scenario would impact pricing as well as the country’s energy security,” the DOE statement revealed.

The DOE said the will closely monitor the developments as they affirm to be with the stakeholders in looking for solutions to overcome the challenges in the industry.

“But whatever business measures Petron will arrive at in the course of its discussion with the concerned parties, we at the DOE will respect the management’s decision,” the statement concluded. (Melo M. Acuña)
