DOH reports more deaths than recoveries

Latest DOH figures reveal higher deaths than recoveries

MANILA – Today’s update on COVID-19 infections revealed 242 additional deaths as against 163 recoveries.

According to the Department of Health, today’s reported deaths included 133 cases earlier reported as recoveries but turned out to be deaths when subjected to final validation.

With the latest figures, the total fatalities now reached 14,059. These deaths account for 1.72 percent of the country’s total coronavirus infections.

The Department of Health said there were 6,414 new recorded COVID-19 cases which brought the total to 819,164. However, five laboratories failed to submit their reports prior to the cutoff time.

According to the DOH, the lower number of cases could be due to the fewer samples received by the laboratories last Sunday, April 4,2021.

Spokesperson Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said this was due to the laboratories decision not to operate during the Holy Week. Today’s figures revealed 158,701 active cases or 19.4 percent of the sum total.

Those active cases include 97.5% with mild symptoms, 1.2% ae asymptomatic, 0.3% are considered moderate, 0.5% have severe symptoms while another 0.5% are in critical condition. (Melo M. Acuña)
