One killed, four others wounded in Maguindanao blast
MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines – Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) confirmed a roadside explosion Friday night killed a member of the Philippine Marines (PM) with four other companions wounded.
The incident took place at Barangay Lipongoz, Datu Hoffer town in Magiundanao Province.
Official reports disclosed a military convoy from the 5th Military Company of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 5 was travelling at the said area when the explosion took place.
“Investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators of this inhumane act of terrorism” said Major General Juvymax Uy, commanding general of the Joint Task Force Central Command.
The victims’ identities have not been disclosed pending notification of their nearest of kin.
Meanwhile, AFP Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. General Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said the act of terrorism “is simply unacceptable.”
“Rest assured that we will exhaust every available resource to bring the perpetrators to justice,” said Lt. General Vinluan.
No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion although the area is a hotbed of the Bangsamoro Independence Freedom Fighters (BIFF). Authorities are still looking into the type of improvised explosive device used in the incident. (Melo M. Acuña)
