President Duterte says no MGCQ until vaccine rollout begins
MANILA – After declaring the further suspension of face-to-face instructions in basic education schools at midday today, Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte has directed his Cabinet that the entire country will not be placed under Modified General Community Quarantine unless a rollout of vaccines has begun.
“The Chief Executive recognizes the importance of re-opening the economy and its impact on people’s livelihoods. However, the President gives higher premium to public health and safety,” Secretary Roque said in a statement released shortly before 9:00 P.M., Monday.
Secretary Roque said President Duterte wants vaccination to start at the soonest possible time to ease the community quarantine.
It will be recalled Acting Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendric Chua suggested the MGCQ declaration to further boost economic activities and generate livelihoods among the country’s workforce and businessmen. (Melo M. Acuña)
