Secretary Locsin, State Council Wang Yi meet
MANILA – Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi earlier today at Tengchong City, in the southern province of Yinnan.
In a statement released by the DFA early Saturday evening, it was learned the two Foreign Ministers held a bilateral meeting on important political and economic bilateral cooperation initiatives.
“Both sides reiterated the continuing vitality of relations amid constraints brought about by COVID-19 pandemic as both parties pledged to continue sustained policy dialogues and economic and infrastructure cooperation projects,” the DFA statement disclosed.
State Councilor Wang declared China’s commitment to supporting President Duterte’s infrastructure program under the “Build, Build, Build” initiative.
They also engaged in what was described as candid and in-depth exchange on regional security concerns and issues of mutual interest in the context if ASEAN-China relations where the Philippines acts as China coordinator, and in broader multilateral fora.
Before the end of the meeting, both Foreign Ministers confirmed the prospective establishment of a Fast Lane for Urgently Needed Personnel Exchanges between the Philippines and China to simplify, with due safeguards, the movement of essential official exchanges and travel y personnel in crucial industries in business and trade. Infrastructure, logistics, production, and technical services.
