Philippines concerned over latest events in Myanmar

Philippines expresses “deep concern” about Myanmar

MANILA – The Philippine government continues to follow “with deep concern” the prevailing situation in Myanmar as it expressed its especial concern with the safety of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

“Myanmar has made substantial and important strides towards democratization in recent years. The Philippines has supported these efforts,” the Philippine Embassy in Yangon said in a statement quoted by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Tuesday afternoon.

Filipinos in Myanmar have been advised to exercise due caution, monitor developments from credible courses and observe the guidance of local authorities, the statement further revealed.

The DFA said there were 1,273 Filipinos in Myanmar as of June 2020. (Melo M. Acuña)
