President Duterte calls on Filipinos to have the courage to overcome the pandemic

President Duterte honors Filipino heroes for the country’s independence

MANILA – With Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea leading the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites at the Rizal Park at 7:00 A.M. today to commemorate the 122nd Independence Day, President Rodrigo Duterte paid tribute to Filipino heroes whose “bravery, heroism and sacrifice” gave the country and its people the “gifts of democracy and freedom.”

In a televised address, President Duterte said as the country continues to wage its battle against COVID-19, it is an opportunity to demonstrate that today’s generation possesses the “same gallantry of spirit and nobility of character as the heroes of our past.”

“Let us now move forward with courage , hope and optimism as we overcome this pandemic,” he concluded. (Melo M. Acuña)
