Entire Luzon placed under State of Calamity
MANILA – Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque confirmed President Rodrigo Duterte’s approval of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s recommendation to declare the whole of island of Luzon under a state of calamity.
Under a state of calamity, the Malacanang statement said an automatic price freeze of basic commodities for all implementing agencies of the Price Act, specifically the Department of Agriculture, on rice, corn, cooking oil, dried and other marine products, fresh eggs, fresh pork, beef and vegetables, root crops, sugar and fresh fruits.
The Department of Trade and Industry for canned fish and other marine products, processed milk, coffee, laundry soap. Detergent, candles, bread, sale, potable water in. bottles and containers, locally-manufactured instant noodles.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources for firewood and charcoal; the Department of Health for drugs classified essential by DOH, and the Department of Energy for household liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and kerosene.
Malacanang said all department and concerned agencies are working together towards rescue, recovery, relief and rehabilitation of affected areas and residents. (Melo M. Acuña)
