Filipinos in Myanmar consider going home
MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) today said they are in the process of finalizing a charter flight agreement to bring home at last 252 Filipinos who signified interest to be repatriated from Myanmar.
This comes at the heels of the military coup which ousted Daw Aung San Suu Kyi last Monday, February 1.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said there were 1,273 Filipinos in Myanmar working in the manufacturing industry including supervisors in textiles, cigarettes, etc. while a significant number work for the United Nations’ agencies and other international organizations.
Several Filipino conglomerates have business interests in Myanmar. (Melo M. Acuña)
