SC denies Sol-Gen Calida's quo warranto vs ABS-CBN

Supreme Court dismisses quo warranto case vs ABS-CBN

MANILA – The Philippine Supreme Court (SC) dismissed the quo warranto cased filed by the Solicitor General Jose Calida on the ground of mootness, media reports quoting SC Public Information Chief Atty. Brian Keith Hosaka,

He said he was able to confirm with Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta that the Supreme Court dismissed today during the en banc session the quo warranto petition against ABS-CBN Corporation on the ground of mootness.

It was earlier reported Solicitor General Calida wants ABS-CBN to cease operation due to alleged violation of its franchise.

Over in Malacañang, Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque said they respect the decision of the Supreme Court which he described as a “separate and co-equal” branch of government on the quo warrantocase filed vs the giant broadcast network.

“We leave it to the Solicitor-General as the Petitioner to decide on his next legal steps,” Secretary Roque said in a statement shortly before 9:00 P.M. Tuesday.

He added on the issue of renewal of ABS-CBN franchise, Secretary Roque said they consider this a prerogative of Congress “which is presently deliberating on the matter.” (Melo M. Acuña)
