Secretary Locsin and Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi hold talks in Vientiane
MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs reported Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. and Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met yesterday in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
In a statement released today, the DFA said the meeting was held on the eve of the Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (SFMM) on responding to the Coronavirus Disease held today.
Secretary Locsin extended the Philippines’ sympathies to the Chinese People and particularly to Wuhan City and Hubei Province.
He also relayed the government’s appreciation for the assistance in the repatriation of Filipino nationals from Hubei Province last Saturday, February 8.
Secretary Locsin said the Philippines remains confident China will overcome this public health crisis. He handed a letter from President Rodrigo Duterte for President Xi Jinping conveying the Philippines’ solidarity and support.
State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed gratitude for the Philippine government’s support for China amid the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (NCP) outbreak, “attesting to the deepening of mutual trust and friendship between the Philippines and China.”
Both Secretary Locsin and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang are due to co-chair the Senior Foreign Ministers Meeting (SFMM). (Melo M. A
