Spokesperson clarifies "perpetual isolation"

“Perpetual isolation” is a figure of speech, says Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque

MANILA – During the regular midday press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said President Duterte was in “perpetual isolation.”

However, in a statement released shortly before 4:00 P.M. today, Secretary Roque said “perpetual isolation” is a figure of speech he used to “highly the prudence exercised by the Presidential Security Group (PSG) in safeguarding the physical well-being of the President.”

“Much as he wanted, for instance, to shake the hands of those present during his fifth State of the Nation Address, the PSG discouraged PRRD from doing so as part of precautionary measure of maintaining physical distance,” Secretary Roque added.

He added the transcript fo the briefing will bear him out that he mentioned “perpetual isolation” in proper context when I made the statement followed with a sentence that “the Presidential Security Group (PSG) has done a really good job in making sure that no one really comes close to the President.”

Secretary Roque said he referred to the social distancing of one meter to two meters health experts required everyone to observe as part of the minimum public health standards. (Melo M. Acuña)
