Toyota Group now in medical face shields production
MANILA – Car manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) and Toyota Group of Companies are now engaged in full-scale production of medical face shields in Japan, with Toyota expanding its production capacity from 500 to 600 uits per week by approximately 20 times to start production of 40,000 units per month or 2,000 units per day from yesterday.
In a statement datelined Toyota City in Japan, it was learned the car manufacturing giant plans to ex[and inhouse production to about 70,000 pieces per month or 3.600 pieces per day.
Toyota Group companies now producing medical face shields include Toyota Motor East Japan, Inc., which provided 3,000 units it produced to Miyagi Prefecture on April 20, and Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd., Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (Daihatsu), and Hino Motors, Ltd. (Hino), which started trial production and have begun providing medical face shields to medical facilities in their immediate areas.
Toyota Industries Corporation plans to produce 10,000 units per month or 500 units per day from tomorrow and Toyota Auto Body Co., Ltd. is seriously considering production of medical face shields from mid-May.
According to their statement, the Toyota Group has begun this initiative for supporting round-the-clock efforts of people in the frontlines to diagnose and treat patients with COVID-19 as part of Toyota’s Kokoro Hakobu Project. The Toyota Group hopes to prioritize the provision of medical face shields it produces to medical facilities and local governments of the various companies of the group. (Melo M. Acuña)
