Uptick in attacks vs Asian Americans noted

Filipinos warned vs attacks on Asian Americans


MANILA – The Philippine Embassy in Washington today warned Filipino Americans against an upsurge in attacks vs Asian Americans in different parts of the United States.


In an advisory circulated among members of the Filipino community and the media, the Philippine Embassy expressed appreciation for the swift action taken by local authorities to apprehend the parties behind the attacks.


“However, we call on federal, state, and local authorities to further ensure the protection of persons of Asian descent, including Filipinos,” the statement disclosed.


Filipinos have been advised to exercise caution because of the incidents and everyone who experience attacks have been advised to call 911 to report the incidents.


Meanwhile, diplomatic sources disclosed there has been an uptick on cases of harassments of Asian-Americans.


Senior citizens have fell victims to these abuses.


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said there have been 4,061,561 Filipinos in the United States as of June 2020, 3,662,741 as permanent migrants, 23,090 documented or temporary migrants and some 375,730 as irregular or undocumented migrations. (Melo M. Acuña)
