US Secretary of State Pompeo calls Foreign Secretary Locsin
MANILA – US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo spoke with Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr.
According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Carl Brown, the two officials talked about “the recent change in U.S. policy on maritime claims in the South China Sea, U.S. support for Southeast Asian coastal states upholding their sovereign rights and interests consistent with international law, and opportunities for further U.S. - Philippine maritime cooperation.”
“The two secretaries also discussed the strong economic, security, and people-to-people ties that bind our two countries,” Brown added.
Foreign Secretary Locsin has not issued any statement about their conversation when sent a copy of the US State Department’s release via his Tweeter account. He simply retweeted the link this writer sent.
As of December 31,2018, there were 4,037,564 Filipinos in the United States. Of the US$33.5 billion cash remittances in 2019, 37.6% or US12.2945 billion came from the United States of America. (Melo M. Acuña)
