Vice President Robredo visits Armed Forces of the Philippines headquarters, meets with top officials
MANILA – Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo met with top officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines at Camp Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Vice President Robredo was received y AFP Chief of Staff Lt. General Gilbert Gapay in customary arrival honors at the GHQ canopy area.
She congratulated General Gapay for his appointment to the helm of the AFM. According to a statement from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the two last met during the wale pf the four Philippine Army officers killed in Jolo, Sulu while General Gapay was still commanding general of the Philippine Army.
The meeting took place at the Office of the Chief of Staff and attended by Vice President Robredo’s staff and the Chiefs of the AFP Joint and Personal Staff. During the meeting, the country’s vice president expressed her gratitude to the whole military organization for its support to the many projects under her office. The projects include Oasis where military engineers assist in the construction of temporary shelters to provide comfortable sleeping accommodations to medical workers in the frontline against COVID-19 pandemic. She also commended the AFP in its efforts to fight the pandemic and noted how the organization cared for its personnel which allowedit to continue supporting government efforts.
The AFP has also supported the Office of the Vice President’s livelihood programs for the less fortunate youth in far-flung areas and villages. She said it is important to provide good governance and education for the youth, especially in Mindanao.
She also cited the AFP in its efforts to protect and preserve the country’s maritime interests in the West Philippine Sea as she highlighted the contributions and sacrifice of the soldiers’ families in keeping the home front while their loves ones are assigned in distant posts.
Vice President Robredo also acknowledged the support from female soldiers, especially the lady generals who hold key positions within the organization.
Lt. General Gapay presented a token to Vice President Robredo where he acknowledged the latter’s efforts to visit the AFP general headquarters and offer encouraging words.
“As the mandated protectors of the people and the state, the AFP will continue to support the Office of the Vice President as well as all humanitarian assistance programs anchored on maintain peace and developments in the country,” the citation read. (Melo M. Acuña)
