ICT month celebrated with workshop on emerging technology with DICT and Huawei
MANILA – With the recent celebration of the National ICT Month, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DOCT) and Huawei Philippines started a series of workshops on emerging technologies to acquaint Filipinos and boost readiness of government agencies, local government units and the academe for the adoption of 5G technology in the country.
The “Emerging Technology Workshop – 5G ASEAN Landscape,” did an online event last June 25, where over a hundred participants from different government agencies, including DICT, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), National Telecommunications Commission, and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, and LGUS and universities, including Bulacan State University.
The speakers came from Huawei Digital Transformation and Business Module Innovation and 5G Solution department. There was interactive discussion on 5G-related technology standards and business models, 5G trends, and 5G applications in different industries in the Philippines.
DICT Asst. Secretary Alvin Navarro underscored the importance of 5G for the global socio-economic development.
“5G-centric innovative ICT technologies are being applied to various industries and sectors to accelerate the development of the economy,” Mr. Navarro said.
He emphasized the need to upgrade one’s appreciation of the emerging technology. The DICT official commended Huawei Philippines for sponsoring the 5G seminar workshop and offering the same to the Department.
The workshop covered “5G examples tied to government policies and initiative and the 5G roles and competencies that will further support its deployment.”
Meanwhile, Huawei Philippines Vice President Daniel Guo assured DICT of Huawei’s support to make the country an inclusive digital Philippines. He thanked DICT and the ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau “for making the event possible and for mounting a very successful ICT month.”
“DICT’s theme ‘Onwards Through ICT: Building a Stronger Philippine Digital Economy’ is very much in line with Huawei’s advocacy of promoting industry development by strengthening the knowledge and expertise of partners and customers,” Guo said. He further said the partnership between the DICT and Huawei will help the Philippine ICT sector to develop more sustainability. (Melo M. Acuña)
