Five more Blackhawk helicopters arrive
MANILA – The Department of National Defense (DND) today said five more Sikorsky S70-I Blackhawk helicopters for the Philippine Air Force (PAF) arrived last Monday, June 7,2021 at Clark Air Base.
The first five of the 16 Blackhawk helicopters were delivered last November 9,2020 and the sixth arrived in Manila last December last year on board transport ship.
The Philippine Air Force now has 11 Sikorsky Blackhawk in its inventory.
The remaining five Blackhawks will be delivered in November this year. The S-70-1 choppers were bought from Polish company Polskue Zaklady Lotnicze Sp.z.o.o. and were manufactured under license from Sikorsky USA and has a contract price of US$241,461,699.39.
The project was procured through a government-to-government transactions with Poland. The initial batch of Blackhawk choppers are being used in humanitarian assistance and disaster response operation, including the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and other medical supplies. It has two engines and other special features including having its own weather radar.
It is described as versatile, multi-role air asset, according to the DND statement. (Melo M. Acuña)
