Car sales slowly moving up

Car and truck sales rise by 23.6% last May 2021

MANILA – The total vehicle sales for May 2021 reached 22,062 units, equivalent to 23.6% growth from the 17,843 units sold last April based on a joint report by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).

CAMPI President Att. Rommel Gutierrez said the industry welcomed the double-digit month-on-month growth amid the shift to the more relaxed quarantine restrictions in the National Capital Region and neighboring provinces. The year-on-year growth rose nearly to 361% from the 4,788 units sold in the same period a year ago.

Atty. Gutierrez said the “industry remains optimistic of a nascent recovery but at the same time on guard for any downside risks of the pandemic particularly if lockdowns are reimposed in NCR plus and in other regions resulting in a tepid confidence.”

The industry has sold 110,217 units, which is a 58.7% increase compared with the same period last year. (Melo M. Acuña)
