DOH, UP – Philippine Genome Center and National Institute of Health confirm Delta variant cases
MANILA – Government health authorities reported the detection of 264 additional cases with Alpha variant, 299 Beta variant cases and the feared 16 Delta variant cases and 55 Theta variant cases from the latest group of samples carefully studied by the UP-Philippine Genome Center.
It was learned the UP-Philippine Genome Center has sequenced a total of 8,557 samples, where 3,434 have variants being closely watched by the Department of Health.
DOH Spokesperson and Undersecretary Maria Rosario S. Vergeire called for collective action to stem the spread of the variant.
“The Department of Health calls on local government units to ensure that protocols for Doors 3 and 4 of the 4-door-strategy are in place and further enhanced,” the statement disclosed.
The DOH underscored the need to strengthen the implementation of the PDITR (Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate) and expand the capacity of the local healthcare capacity to address the possibility of increase in COVID-19 cases.
“We also call for public’s cooperation to choose to be protected against COVID-19 by continuously following the minimum public health stands and through vaccination,” the DOH statement concluded. (Melo M. Acuña)
