All 13 Filipino seafarers safe
MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs said all 13 Filipino seafarers are safe and accounted for.
Citing reports from the Philippine Embassy in Beirut, the 13 Filipino seafarers who were injured in the blasts that rocked the city Tuesday afternoon are safe, Undersecretary Sarah Lou Y. Arriola said in a statement.
Philippine Embassy Beirut Charge d’affaires Ajeet Panemanglor visited the seafarers temporarily billeted at the employer-provided accommodations.
Five of the seafarers were at the hospital for another medical check-up when Philippine Embassy officials arrived yesterday. Another visit is scheduled today to meet the remaining mariners.
The Filipino seafarers are crew members of Orient Queen, a cruise ship which was said to be docked several hundrer meters from the blast site. (Melo M. Acuña)
