DOH reports 12,674 new COVID-19 cases; Spox Roque now at PGH

Total COVID-19 cases reach 853,209 as Secretary Roque sought hospital confinement

MANILA – While members of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) today, President Rodrigo Duterte has not decided yet whether to end or extend the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) which will end on Monday.

In a message, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the chief executive will still weigh the pros and cons of the extension or end of the ECQ for Metro Manila and the provinces of Rizal, Laguna, Cavite and Bulacan. Among the factors which will be considered is the Health Care Utilization Rate (HCUR).

Secretary Roque earlier confirmed his confinement to the University of the Philippines’-Philippine General Hospital.

“This is to say that COVID-19 is more transmissible now so we have to do extra precaution,” he said in a short message to Media practitioners as he asked for sincerest prayers for everyone afflicted with COVID-19 in the Philippines and elsewhere.

These developments come at the heels of the Department of Health (DOH) release at 4:00 P.M. which revealed another 12,674 new COVID-19 cases with 593 new recoveries and 225 new fatalities.

Today, there are 190,245 or 22.4% active cases with 649,220 or 76.0% recoveries and 14,744 or 1.73% fatalities from the total number of 853,209. Some sectors said there is a possibility the more cases will be reported as the possibility of reaching a million cases by the end of April remains likely. (Melo M. Acuña)
