Estrella-Pantaleon bridge to be opened tomorrow

President Duterte to lead Estrella-Pantaleon bridge inauguration

MANILA – The long-awaited opening of the Estrella-Pantaleon bridge will take place tomorrow with President Rodrigo Duterte, Chinese Ambassador to Manila Huang Xilian and Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar in attendance.

They will unveil the bridge marker at Rockwell, Makati. The new bridge will connect Mandaluyong and Makati Cities within five minutes.

The bridge costs P1.46 billion. It is one of two bridges funded by a grant of the People’s Republic of China. The other bridge connecting Binondo and Intramuros is expected to be finished before year-end.

Secretary Villar said the modern bridge across Pasig River is expected to accommodate about 50,000 vehicles a day and part of the projects under the Metro Manila Logistics Improvement Network to stem traffic congestion in major thoroughfares.

The construction of the 506.46-meter bridge started in January 2019 under the DPWH Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations under Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain. COVID-19 pandemic slowed down the construction.
