Military plane crashes in Jolo, Sulu
MANILA – A military plane, an Air Force C-130 plane ferrying troops from Northern Mindanao to Jolo, Sulu missed the runway and while trying to regain power, it crashed at a village in Patikul, Sulu.
“We are doing our best to rescue the passengers. Brig. General Gonzales is the one acting ground commander to put off the fire and rescue the passengers,” General Cirilito E. Sobejana, AFP Chief of Staff, said in an interview with Manila-based newsmen.
He added the responding troops have already rescued 40 of the passengers now undergoing emergency treatment at the 11th Infantry Division Hospital in Sulu.
General Sobejana said they have already called on other military units to respond to the emergency.
“It was truly an unfortunate incident,” General Sobejana further said.
The Philippine Air Force said a C-130 aircraft with tail number #5125 figured in a mishap upon landing in Jolo.
It was on its way to Jolo to bring military personnel when the accident took place.
About a week ago, a Blackhawk Helicopter crashed in Central Luzon while on a night proficiency flight which resulted in the death of six, including a pilot instructor, two other pilots and crew members. (Melo M. Acuña)
