Repatriation continues as 202 Filipinos return from Macau
MANILA – The 20th repatriation flight through the Philippine Consulate General in Macau SAR brought 202 Filipinos home Tuesday, August 3, bringing the total number of Filipinos who benefitted from the Consulate’s repatriation to 3,995 Filipinos.
The Philippine Consulate General to Macau SAR Porfirio M. Mayo, Jr, said all Filipinos in Macau who wish to return to the Philippines will be assisted.
“We will continue to help Filipinos in Macau who wish to return to the Philippines,” he said. The repatriation flights began last March 2020 as Macau was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as it derives its revenues from tourism.
Consul General Mayo expressed his thanks to the Macau SAR Government for its cooperation in making the repatriation program possible.

The next repatriation flight has been scheduled next Friday, August 13,2021.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar repatriated 53 distressed Filipinos in cooperation with Myanmar National Airlines (MNA). The repatriates where composed of 28 men and 25 women, including three children and one infant who reached Manila last Tuesday, August 3.
The Philippine Embassy, in coordination with the DFA’s Office of Migrant Workers’ Affairs, paid for the one-way airfare from Yangon for 30 Filipinos who required assistance.
The Philippine Embassy provided for four Filipinos from Thahtay Kyun Island, some 660 kilometers from Yangon and eight Filipinos from Mandalay region, some 625 kilometers from Yangon with the necessary land transportation to their temporary accommodation in Yangon.
The overstay penalties were also shouldered by the Philippine Embassy for a Filipino who lost his job due to the pandemic.
This is the 20th flight arranged by the Embassy since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. (Melo M. Acuña)
