New COVID 19 cases rise to over 17,000

Positive cases hit an all-time high of 17, 231 cases as deaths now at 31,198


MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) today reported a record-high of 17,231 COVID-19 positive cases bringing to a grand total of 1,807,800 cases.


The government agency reported 5,595 new recoveries and 317 deaths.


Today, there are 123,251 total active cases with 1,653,351 recoveries and 31,198 fatalities. There were 64,934 tests undertaken last August 18 where 26.1% were found positive.


At NAIA Terminal 1, 582,500 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived shortly before 10:00 A.M. Sources at the National Task Force said the shipment was procured by the private sector, part of the “A Dose of Hope” project.


Meanwhile, 739,200 doses of Sinopharm vaccines, all donated by the Chinese government will arrive at 5:55 P.M. today. The shipment is part of the 1 million doses donated by the Chinese government. (Melo M. Acuña)
