Manila Mayor “Iskho Moreno” receives Sinovac jab; over 800k vaccinated


MANILA – CoronaVac vaccines, known as SinoVac received a warm welcome from 1,300 residents residing around Osmeña High School in Tondo District as Manila City Mauor Francisco “Iskho Moreno” Domagoso led the recipients this morning.


Vice Mayor Dr. Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan, a Doctor of Medicine herself administered the vaccine on Mayor Dumagoso.


He received the jab after President Rodrigo Duterte and the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) allowed local government heads from high-risk cities and towns to get vaccinated.


Mayors have been considered part of the A4 category that covers “frontline personnel in essential sectors including uniformed personnel and those in sectors identified by the IATF as essential during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).”


“Thank you kay President Duterte at sa IATF sa approval na mabakunahan na rin kaming mga mayor,” Domagoso said. The city mayor said he has always expressed his willingness to receive the Sinovac jab in order to boost vaccine to boost the vaccine confidence among local residents. He did not receive the jab last March 1 at the Philippine General Hospital because he was not part of the medical frontline workers.


Vice Mayor Lacuna-Pangan received her Sinovac jab last Tuesday, March 2 and became the first elected official to receive the vaccine.


Meanwhile, 761,872 frontline healthcare workers received CoronaVac and AstraZeneca vaccines through the COVAX Facility from March 1 to April 2. Out of this number, 10,632 completed two doses and were from Metro Manila.


There were 14,762 senior citizens from the National Capital Region and Region IV-A while 13,288 individuals with comorbidity from the National Capital Region and Cordillera Administrative Region received the vaccines. The total number of individuals vaccinated reached 800,554. The average number of inoculations in a day is 24,259 individuals. (Melo M. Acuna)
