Cardinal Advincula to receive the “red hat” from Archbishop Charles Brown
MANILA – Cardinal-elect Jose Fuerte Advincula will receive his “red hat” from the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles Brown in solemn ceremonies at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Roxas City on Friday, May 28.
According to the CBCP News, quoting Fr. Emilio Arbatin, Archdiocese of Capiz’s spokesperson said only 300 people will be allowed inside the cathedral due to stringent health protocols brought about by COVID-19.
He added the cardinal’s immediate family, several bishops, priests and representatives from the Archdiocese of Capiz’s 67 parishes and mission stations.
Last year, Pope Francis elevated 13 archbishops to the College of Cardinals, including Brunei’s first cardinal, Archbishop Cornelius Sim.
With COVID-19 pandemic’s travel restrictions, Cardinals-elect Advincula and Sim failed to attend the conclave held last November 28,2020.
Both Cardinals-elect Advincula and Sim attended the rites on-line.
Cardinal-elect Advincula is the Philippines’ ninth cardinal after Cardinals Rufino Santos, Julio Rosales, Jaime Sin, Ricardo Vidal, Jose Sanchez, Gaudencio Rosales, Luis Antonio Tagle and Orlando Quevedo.
Last March 25, Pope Francis appointed Cardinal-elect Advincula as Archbishop of Manila after Cardinal Tagle was appointed Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
The Archdiocese of Manila has not announced the date of Cardinal Advincula’s installation as 33rd Archbishop of Manila. (Melo M. Acuña
