President Duterte to participate in the 27th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting
MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte will take part in the 27th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) tomorrow, November 20 via video conference.
The 27th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, currently chaired by Malaysia, will focus on the theme “Optimizing Human Potential Towards a Resilient Future of Shared Prosperity: Pivot. Prioritize. Progress”. According to a statement from the Office of the President released Thursday afternoon, the priority areas of Malaysia’s chairmanship are improving the narrative of trade and investment, inclusive economic participation through the digital economy, and driving innovative technology.
President Duterte will join counterparts from the 21 member-economies of APEC in a high-level discussion on responses in moderating the health and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recovery efforts.
President Duterte is expected to pursue the Philippines’ views on APEC’s post-2020 vision and current challenges to multilateral trading system.
The International Monetary Fund’s managing director will present the Global Economic Outlook to the APEC Economic Leaders.
Aside from President Duterte, Foreign Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. and Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon M. Lopez will be part of the Philippine contingent.
The 21 APEC member-countries are Australia, Brunei-Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of china, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States of America and Viet Nam.
