As the political cauldron begins to simmer, PRP to support Mayor Sara Duterte should she opt to run
MANILA – The political party founded by the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, will support Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte should she decide to seek the presidency in 2022.
Speaking at a press briefing at midday today, Atty. Narciso Y. Santiago, Jr. said last December 3,2018, the People's Reform Party (PRP) where he sits as party president, joined Mayor Sara Duterte’s regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) where both parties signed an alliance for the 2019 midterm elections.
“The alliance may be renewed for next year’s elections,” said Atty. Santiago, who served as Interior and Local Government undersecretary during the Estrada and Macapagal-Arroyo presidencies.
He added they believe Mayor Sara Duterte can continue the advocacies and principles of former Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.
During the same briefing, Atty. Santiago said they are supportive of Spokesperson Harry Roque’s possible senatorial bid.
Secretary Roque said he and the Santiago’s friendship has gone a long way.
“I took over Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago’s classes at the UP College of Law where she taught International Law among others,” Secretary Roque said.
Asked of the PRP has the logistics to mount a national campaign, Atty. Santiago said it has always been a problem. However, he said they have received enormous support from the general public in their political campaigns. (Melo M. Acuña)
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque (center) said despite the lack of logistics to support his senatorial bid, he believes an endorsement from the People's Reform Party under President Atty. Narciso Y. Santiago, Jr. would be a big plus to his campaign. Others in the photo are Atty. Narcisco Y. Santiago, Jr., (extreme left) and Ray Anthony David, Jr.. another PRP official.
