President Duterte to receive American Defense Secretary Austin
MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to receive United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III in a courtesy call in Malacañang tomorrow, July 29,2021.
In a statement released late Wednesday evening, the Office of the President said Secretary Austin is on an official visit to Southeast Asia. He is scheduled to visit Singapore, Viet Nam and Manila.
The visit to the Philippines is said to highlight the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and the United States and the 70th Anniversary of the signing of the Philippines-United States Mutual Defense Treaty.
Expected to join President Duterte, during the call are top Philippine government officials led by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., Secretary of National Defense Delfin N. Lorenzana, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel G. Romualdez and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs Robert E. A. Borje.
